Based outside Barcelona, SEAT is the only company that designs, develops, manufactures and markets cars in Spain since its founding in 1950. CUPRA is a stand-alone brand within the SEAT organization which produces cars based on striking design and electrified performance, as well as racecars, since 2018.

Prototyping and producing with HP Multi Jet Fusion

During the conceptualization stages of their new racing car—the CUPRA Leon Competición—CUPRA faced challenges in quickly creating prototypes for some of the car’s lightweight components such as side mirrors, air vents, and a central control module for the steering wheel.

CUPRA turned to HP Multi Jet Fusion technology, specifically the HP Jet Fusion 5200 Series 3D Printing Solution, to rapidly iterate designs, test those designs, and help them get to the final product in a short time frame.

According to Xavi Serra, Head of Technical Development at CUPRA Racing, HP Multi Jet Fusion technology allows CUPRA to produce multiple on-demand parts in order to test designs. “Since vehicle development is now done in parallel, this technology enables us to react swiftly to any changes in the design process,” Serra said.
