Reduce your cost per part: explore specific strategies for your business

Hello, my name is Miguel, and welcome to the TCO (Total cost of ownership) station. In this station, we help our customers reduce costs by analyzing their situation and providing the best solutions to lower expenses wherever they are now, while also planning for the next step of growth in the company so they can grow in the smartest way possible. In HP Multi Jet Fusion, when we increase production, we can always reduce costs. Depending on the customer's situation, we help them obtain the best cost for their current production.

To help our customers reduce costs, we identify the cost of contributors that increase the overall expense. We separate them into variable and fixed costs and find strategies to reduce each contributor, such as material, consumables, labor, hardware, and services. We do this by interviewing customers, understanding their applications, production, and materials, and advising them on how to run operations as optimally as possible. For instance, customers working with PA 12 or PA 12 S materials have different advantages, so we recommend different packing densities and refresh ratios to save on material and consumables when using their HP Multi Jet Fusion printer.

For fixed costs, we analyze the number of buckets they print, their production rate, and throughput, and then recommend the exact machine family they should use. Whether they work with a 56 machine, a 5620, or a 5620 Pro, each option offers different advantages in material and hardware costs. We guide them on when to switch from one 3D printer to the next. As production increases, costs per bucket decrease, and process development plays a key role. By adjusting printer settings, enabling different applications, and changing parameters such as temperature and irradiance, customers can reduce printing time and costs. Examples include changing layer thickness or carriage speed to increase throughput and lower hardware and service costs.

Our objective is to reduce the cost per part for our customers. One solution we offer is automation, which can significantly reduce labor costs depending on their production shifts. Using automation helps achieve lower costs per part and smarter growth. It is our mission to help customers grow efficiently, and we have been doing this for ten years. We will continue to provide solutions to reduce costs, accelerate growth, and make it smarter. Stay tuned for more innovations to help you succeed.

Abstract:

This demo invited visitors to explore ways to lower the total cost of ownership (TCO) with HP Multi jet Fusion. It highlighted both fixed and variable cost drivers in HP MJF and offered tailored strategies to boost productivity, optimize build design, and reduce labor—aligned with each company's unique requirements.

Detailed summary:

This demo helped visitors understand how their cost structure is divided into fixed and variable costs, and how to take targeted actions to reduce both.

Key strategies to reduce cost per part include:

  • Automate workflows to reduce labor costs and speed up production.
  • Optimize packing density for higher throughput and fewer builds
  • Design smarter builds to minimize material waste and improve efficiency
  • Improve refresh ratios for better material utilization.
  • Choose the right material for performance and cost savings.
  • Use simulations to accelerate productivity.

Visitors engaged with real-world scenarios, asked questions about their current setup, and received expert guidance from HP AM specialists—whether that meant switching materials, increasing productivity, or streamlining workflows.

For those aiming to reduce costs, boost throughput, or prepare for future growth, this demo offered the tools to begin that journey.
